Medical Director
Dr. Avery Kasten joined the City By The Sea Veterinary Hospital team in August 2020 and is our Medical Director. What does this mean? Basically, she makes sure everyone stays engaged in the latest industry standards of care for veterinary medicine and surgery. She is originally from Somerville, but is a beach bum at heart and now lives in the Asbury Park area. She attended Rutgers University for undergraduate studies, where she met her husband, Dr. Tom Caltabilota. Following college, she was accepted at Oklahoma State University for veterinary school, then briefly moved back to New Jersey for an internship at Garden State Veterinary Specialists. While Dr. Tom completed his veterinary studies in Alabama, she worked ER overnights in Birmingham. Now home, Dr. Kasten enjoys the variety of general practice, but particularly loves dentistry and geriatric medicine. Her outside activities include yoga, vegetable gardening (despite a black thumb), and spending time with her husband, son, and 3 rescue pups Andouille, Mimi, and Rubble.
