Anytime a cat is having trouble breathing, trouble urinating, excessive vomiting, not eating, lethargy, or inability to urinate.
How can I tell if my cat is in pain?
Behavior changes, aggression, licking excessively, limping, and decreased energy can be signs of pain in a cat.
What do I do if my cat is choking?
I would try to stay as calm as possible and bring them to a vet.
How should you safely transport your cat to the vet?
Absolutely, get them in the carrier and bring them right over.
What are the signs of a cat having a seizure, and what should I do if my cat is having a seizure?
Typically, we see foaming, convulsions, and unconsciousness. Try to stay calm, try to time the seizure itself, and make sure they're unable to hurt themselves. So, not on any furniture, not near any stairs. Just try to keep them as safe as possible.
How can I tell if my cat has been poisoned?
If your cat has been poisoned, things like behavior changes, vomiting, or not eating are the most common signs.
What are the signs of heatstroke in cats, and how can I prevent it?
Very similar to dogs. So, panting excessively, lethargy, GI upset, vomiting, and diarrhea. I would recommend keeping your cat indoors on extremely hot days.
What should I do if my cat has been hit by a car?
I would again just try to stay calm and have them seen by a veterinarian immediately.
What are the signs of a urinary blockage in male cats?
We typically see vomiting, lethargy, inability to pass urine or just straining to urinate, and not eating.
How can I tell if my cat is having difficulty breathing?
They're using their abdomen to breathe, so they have efforted breathing. They're panting or their gums are a blue color.
What should I do if my cat is vomiting or has diarrhea for more than 24 hours?
I would see a veterinarian so we can prescribe some medications.
What are the signs of a severe allergic reaction in cats?
We see hives, facial swelling, vomiting, collapse, and lethargy.
What should I include in a first aid kit for my cat?
I would say gauze rolls, any type of bandage material, some gauze squares, saline flush, medical tape, and some latex gloves.
What should you do if you absolutely need to perform CPR on your cat?
I would not recommend this, but if you absolutely need to, chest compressions are what's needed, as well as some mouth-to-snout breathing.
What are some common causes of collapse in cats?
Heart disease, poisoning, and dehydration.
What should I do if my cat’s eye is injured or swollen?
I would see a veterinarian so we can do some tests on the eye and treat it appropriately.
How can I tell if my cat has a broken bone, and what should I do?
Typically, the first sign is limping, and they're going to show severe pain.
I would see a vet as soon as possible so we can get your cat on pain medications.
After an emergency, how should I monitor my cat’s healing or progress?
I would just say monitor them closely for any recurrent signs or worsening.
